Foyle Women’s Aid offers secure, supported, short term accommodation at confidential locations for women or women and their children who have to leave their homes for their own safety due to domestic abuse.

We have a range of fully furnished and equipped one, two and three bedroom purpose-built self-contained flats and houses where families can live until they return to their own home, or move on to new permanent accommodation.

Support staff will provide practical assistance and emotional support to families to promote independent living, encouraging women to take control of their lives and empowering them to break the cycle of abuse.

Who can live in our accommodation?

Women aged over 17, and women and their children of all ages, who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness due to domestic abuse, sexual exploitation or human trafficking.

Accommodation is available to any woman regardless of race, religion, political persuasion, sexual orientation, ethnic origin.

How long can I stay?

Foyle Women’s Aid accommodation is short term temporary accommodation. Some women stay until they have legal orders in place and it is safe to return home. For others it may not be an option to return home, and they can stay with us as they examine other housing options with their support worker.

Will I have to share facilities?

No. All accommodation provided by Foyle Women’s Aid is fully self-contained. Each unit comes fully equipped with furniture and appliances, including washing machines, TVs etc.

Will I be safe?

Foyle Women’s Aid strives to keep the location of their secure accommodation as confidential as possible. In addition there are security systems and CCTV in place as well as an emergency on call system.

How much does it cost?

Rents are in line with similar accommodation in the community. Applicants must have recourse to public funds, be eligible for Housing Benefit or be able to pay the rent from own resources.

What about my children?

Children live with their mother in their accommodation and Foyle Women’s Aid has childcare staff to support mothers to help their children settle in and adjust. Teenage sons over the age of 16, who are often not admitted to communal refuges, can live with their mothers at our accommodation.

How do I apply?

We take referrals from women themselves, and from statutory and voluntary agencies. We also take enquiries from family and friends with the victims consent.
