ASSIST NI – DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL ABUSE ADVOCACY SERVICE

A new and exciting partnership between three agencies (Belfast and Lisburn Women’s Aid, Foyle Family Justice Centre and the Men’s Advisory Project), has been set up to deliver an innovative Northern Ireland wide advocacy service to support qualifying victims of domestic and sexual violence and abuse. The service is available to all qualifying victims regardless of religious belief, political opinion, racial group, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender, disability or dependents.

The overall purpose of the service is to provide co-ordinated and tailored support, responsive to individual needs, in partnership with well-established services.  This service has been jointly commissioned by the Department of Justice and the PSNI.

We are seeking to recruit the following posts:

Job Title Lead Advocate – PSNI Station – Ballymoney LA06/21

The Lead Advocate will the first point of contact for all referrals into the project and will be responsible for assessing risk, allocating referrals and monitoring progress.  They will provide support and guidance to a team of Advocates.

For this post we are looking for an individual with previous experience of providing a direct service to domestic and sexual violence and abuse victims.  You will have an understanding of the dynamics, impact and scale of domestic and sexual violence and abuse and have the ability to provide direction and motivation to a team.  

The salary for this post is £27,741 per annum

Job Title: Advocates A06/21

Located in PSNI stations throughout NI (please refer to the job description for a list of locations)

As an Advocate you will provide a high-quality support service to qualifying victims of domestic and sexual violence and abuse.  You will receive and follow up referrals, develop safety and support plans, work to reduce risk and make referrals to other appropriate agencies. You will also support victims through the Criminal Justice System.

For these posts we are looking for individuals with previous experience of providing support to those in crisis and with an understanding of the dynamics, impact and scale of domestic and sexual violence and abuse.  

The salary for these posts is £22,183 per annum

There will be a work pattern reflective of demand, requiring staff to work some late shifts, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

These are 3 year fixed term posts that may be extended.

Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organisation that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Since starting operations in 1997 in New York, Dress for Success has expanded to over 160 cities and 30 countries. To date, Dress for Success has helped more than one million women work toward self-sufficiency.

Dress for Success Foyle Northern Ireland opened its doors in Derry/Londonderry in January 2018, with the launch of the Dress for Success Boutique and Careers Centre, sponsored by M&S.

The post holder will work with the local Dress for Success Board and the Dress for Success Worldwide team in terms of reporting and development requirements. The duties will include liaising with established and new referral agencies; the recruitment of volunteers; the coordination and, on occasions, delivery of the training programmes to clients in the Careers Centre. Responsible for the cultivation, activation and stewardship of individual donors, corporate sponsors and foundations and leading the planning, evaluation, and execution of overall key fundraising and events. Engagement with the local Community is essential and building strong relationships, promoting Dress for Success at all times.

The post holder should possess a passion for the Dress for Success mission, and have an interest in learning about the barriers that women face to joining and thriving in the workplace, and the provision of the support required to empower women to build their confidence and self-esteem to work towards self-sufficiency.

 Essential Criteria

 You must:

  • At least 2 years’ Project Management experience, excellent coordination skills and a proven track record of achieving goals
  • Experience in working in a non-profit organisation
  • Experience in the writing of successful funding applications
  • Strong social media marketing skills and experience working with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office and report-writing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record of working with stakeholders
  • Use of initiative and results-driven, with high attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • A team player, adaptable to change

 Desirable Criteria

  • Possess a third-level degree in a related relevant discipline
  • At least 5 years’ Project Management experience, excellent coordination skills and a proven track record of achieving goals
  • Retail experience
  • Experience in event-planning

A full driving licence and use of a car for business purposes is also essential. You will be subject to an Enhanced Access NI Check and will be required to work unsocial hours, including evening and weekend work on occasion.

Foyle Women’s Aid is the lead agency offering a specialist domestic violence support service in the Foyle Trust area. We offer a range of outreach services and secure supported accommodation for women and children. The work is underpinned by an ethos of self-help and mutual support. POD15 is the childcare unit, with Sweet Peas Crèche facilities for the children of women in our service. The crèche facilities are available for those women who attend our training courses and the Tenancy Programme. We also provide crèche facilities for those who are having court support.

Post Overview:

We are looking for a motivated, dedicated, reliable and flexible individual, who has a genuine passion for working with children. You will be part of a supportive and encouraging larger crèche team. You will work with a small group of children and their families, and build relationships in a sensitive and positive way, whilst delivering the highest possible care for all children who attend. You will ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the children at all times and provide a stimulating, educational and fun environment for children attending crèche.

The successful candidate will possess the following Essential Criteria:

  • A minimum of Level 3 or equivalent Childcare qualification
  • A minimum of 2 years’ relevant practical crèche experience of working with children, demonstrating your ability to relate well to children and their parents
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding Training
  • An awareness of vulnerable families and a good understanding of the issues children living in difficult situations will encounter
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Office
  • The capacity to handle pressure and to be adaptable to changing demands
  • Work flexibly as part of a team, and able to use judgement and initiative

Desirable Criteria

  • Level 5 Diploma for Children’s Care, Learning and Development or equivalent
  • Qualification in Child Protection
  • Qualification in First Aid
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant practical crèche experience of working with children, demonstrating your ability to relate well to children and their parents
  • Knowledge of current legislation when working with children, particularly their safeguarding
